10 Gigabit Ethernet

alias : 10GbE

10 gigabit Ethernet is a new telecommunication technology that offers data speeds up to 10 gigabits per second. It is ten times as fast as gigabit Ethernet. 10 gigabit Ethernet offers a more efficient and less expensive approach to moving data on backbone connections between networks.

The 10 gigabit Ethernet system operates in full-duplex mode only. 10 gigabit Ethernet is expected to be used to interconnect local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and metropolitan area networks (MANs). 10GbE over fiber is specified by the IEEE 802.3-2005 standard. 10GbE over twisted pair has been released under the IEEE 802.3an amendment.
