Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) is a 1G analog mobile phone system standard which operates in the 800-900MHz-frequency band. It is a standard developed by Bell Labs in 1983.
Advanced Mobile Phone System is an analog cellular mobile phone system widely available in North America. Although AMPS has been replaced by newer digital standards, such as Digital AMPS, GSM, and CDMA which brought improved security as well as increased capacity.
Advanced Mobile Phone System is standardized by ANSI as EIA/TIA-553 and TIA interim standard IS-91.
