ARM is a microprocessor manufacturing company founded in 1990. ARM Holdings plc's 32-bit RISC processor architecture is widely used in a number of devices.
ARM processors have low electric power consumption which makes them particularly suitable for use in portable devices. ARM processors are used as the main CPU for most mobile phones, many personal digital assistants and handhelds, like the Apple iPod, Nintendo Game Boy Advance as well as many other applications, including Digital camera, GPS, Digital television, etc.
ARM licenses its technology as intellectual property. Companies like Intel, Freescale and Renesas have licensed ARM technology.
