Dolby Digital Plus 【E-AC-3】

Dolby Digital Plus is an audio coding developed by Dolby Laboratories. It is based on the original AC-3 codec with several enhancements to improve coding efficiency. Dolby Digital Plus was developed specifically for the introduction of HDTV and HD DVD/Blu-ray Disc.

Dolby Digital Plus supports data rates up to 6.144 Mbit/s and can carry up to thirteen full range audio channels. Dolby Digital Plus is not directly backward compatible with AC-3. Existing AC-3 decoders cannot directly decode E-AC-3 streams. Dolby Digital Plus is also known as E-AC-3.
