FTTP

full spelling : Fiber to the premises

Fiber to the premises refers to a broadband telecommunications system where use of fiber-optic cable for delivery of broadband service to homes and/or businesses. FTTP involves laying optical fiber from a central location to a termination point (the home or business).

This is in contrast to the last-mile copper with fiber optic cable used in methods such as fiber to the node (FTTN), fiber to the curb (FTTC), or hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC). Unlike DSL technology where distance between the home and the central switch is limited to only a few thousand feet, FTTP allows for up to 80 kilometers between the home and the central switch. An FTTP infrastructure enables those internet providers to provide high-speed broadband.
