IEEE 1394 【IEEE 1394a】
full spelling : Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers 1394
IEEE 1394 is high speed SCSI standards for the next generation. Sixty three machines can be connected to 1394 at the maximum in daisy chain connection or tree connection. Its standardized transfer rates are 100Mbps, 200Mbps, and 400Mbps. In IEEE 1394, machines can be connected and disconnected while they are in operation (this is called hot plug), and they can be charged with connection cables. IEEE 1394 is expected as the standard for connection of computers and peripherals and sometimes as home LAN that connects electronic appliances to each other. It is already applied to digital video interface (DV interface). The nickname for IEEE 1394 is "FireWire", the name which was used when it was originally developed at the initiative of Apple. The standard which Sony calls "i Link" is also IEEE 1394.
