LAN (Local Area Network) is a network which sends and receives data through computers and printers connected within the same buildings, using twisted pair cables, coaxial cables and optical fibers.
There are some kinds of LAN. They are categorized by the way it is connected, that is, star formed LAN, ring formed LAN and bus formed LAN. They are also categorized by communication control systems, that is, Ethernet, Fddi and Token Ring.
The most popular ones are Ethernet standard, especially 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX, the star formed LANs using twisted pair cables.
