MPEG-1 Audio Layer II is an audio file compression technique. The audio files compressed using MPEG-1 Audio Layer II usually has the file extension .mp2. There for these files also known as MP2 files. MPEG-1 Audio Layer II is defined by ISO/IEC 11172-3.
MP2 has mostly been superseded by MP3 for PC and Internet applications. MP2 performs better than MP3 on high bit-rates and is generally more error resilient than MP3. MP2 remains a dominant standard for audio broadcasting as part of the DAB digital radio and DVB digital television standards.
