NAND-type flash memory

NAND-type flash memory is a technique developed by Toshiba in 1987. It is designed mainly to save and exchange data as a replacement for a magnetic disk.

It is different from NOR-type flash memory, which is designed to store programs. It is more suitable forlarge volumes because of its fast erase and writing of data although random access is slow. using a block as a unit for reading and writing.

It is widely applied to memory card media as a memory element for CompactFlash, SmartMedia and SD memory card.
