RDRAM is a type of DRAM design and developed by Rambus, Inc. In 1997, Intel announced that it would license the Rambus technology for use on its future motherboards. In 1999 first PC motherboards with support for RDRAM introduced to the market.

RDRAM memory interface benefit from the highest bandwidth per pin, reducing overall component count, controller pin-count and system board cost. Companies incorporating RDRAM interfaces into their products include Cisco, Dell, Hitachi, HP, Intel, Panasonic, SiS, Sony, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and Vitesse.
