SVG is an acronym for Scalable Vector Graphics. It is an XML specification and file format for two-dimensional graphics. SVG specifies 2D vector graphics, both static and animated. Scalable Vector Graphics are defined using mathematical expressions, allowing them to scale flawlessly.

SVG is an open standard created by the World Wide Web Consortium's SVG Working Group. SVG standard was first start to develop in 1998 by the W3C SVG Working Group. SVG is initially based on VML and PGML. SVG 1.0 became a W3C Recommendation on September 4, 2001.
