Network switch is a device that filters and forwards packets between network segments. Switch is like a hub but create a private link between any two connected nodes when a connection network is established. This reduces the amount of network collusion and does improve the speed.

Switches operate at OSI Layer 2 (data link layer) of the OSI Reference Model.
