WAV
full spelling : Wave File
WAV (also referred to as WAVE) is short for Waveform audio format, and is Windows audio file format standard. It provides for the storage of audio signals after they have been converted into digital data. The WAV format generally does not store compressed (encoded) files, but its default settings are for PCM (pulse-code modulation) and ADPCM (Adaptive Differential (or Delta) pulse-code modulation) formats. With the addition of CODEC software provided by Microsoft and other companies, MPEG-1 Audio Layer III (MP3), Indeo Audio, and other compressed audio formats can be used.
