WPA

full spelling : Wi-Fi Protected Access

Wi-Fi Protected Access is a data encryption method for 802.11 wireless networks. WPA was created in response to several serious weaknesses of the previous system, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).

Wi-Fi Protected Access was intended as an intermediate measure to take the place of WEP while IEEE802.11i (WPA2) was prepared. WPA was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, an industry trade group, which owns the trademark to the Wi-Fi name and certifies devices that carry that name.
